Horary Astrology
There are many branches of astrology and horary is one of the best. This is a branch of astrology that is interrogatory. Basically, horary astrology answers a question based on the time of the question. Horary comes from the Latin word houra, which means time, or of the hour.
In times past, horary was one of the most popular forms of astrology, since few people knew the day they were born, much less the hour. Some people didn't even know the year in which they were born. A chart was cast to answer a question without a need for the person's birth data.
What exactly is Horary Astrology?
As I mentioned in the beginning, horary astrology answers a single question. The client asks a question, and the astrologer casts a chart for the moment in time when the question is asked and then does an analysis based on that chart.
In days past, questions were asked in person, or by mail. Sometime people sent their question in a letter from the other side of the world. In our times, questions are left on answering machines, which record the date and time, or by email. It doesn't matter in which form the question comes, as long as the date and time are known, and that the question is clear. Horary does not usually answer vague or silly questions. If someone is truly not interested in the answer, the chart will not answer.
What type of questions will Horary answer?
Horary will answer just about any question if the person is sincere. If the question is asked on a lark, they will get a garbled or confusing answer. If the person is not truthful, that will come out in the chart as well. A question such as "Is he my soul mate?" is not considered a real question. When someone asks such a question they usually mean something else such as, will we get married. The chart may say your soul mates, but would you be happy only with that? What if it's a platonic relationship? Or someone may ask, what's in my future. What do they really mean? The chart may answer about the immediate future and say you're going on a trip. Is that really what you want to know?
My advice to clients is to be as specific as possible and have a time limit. One of the things that is specific to horary is that the question may only be asked once, although if enough time goes by and I'm talking about months, if not years, the question may be asked again and gives an answer.
William Lily of England wrote an entire book on horary, called Christian Astrology. The revival of Lily's methods has made Horary and classical astrology popular once again. There are other astrologers who have taught horary and written books and kept the tradition alive. One of the most knowledgeable and prolific astrologers was Ivy Jacobsen Goldstein. Her book Horary Astrology is a classic, if not the bible of astrology. Another great horary astrologer was Barbara Watters. She was a well known astrologer in Washington DC.
