Chart His Sun, noticeable near the top of his chart, is in a grand trine with Neptune, (film) and Jupiter (success). This grand trine has brought him enormous success in movies with Jupiter in the 5th house of entertainment. Neptune in the first house adds to his interest in film and fantasy, and gives him his romantic persona. A Cancer Sun is very much in tune with the needs of the pubic, and this has made him an astute judge of what will be popular. However, Cancer rules the moods of the public, and Cancer is a weak sign for the Sun, the Sun has no dignity. We must turn to the Moon to understand why he must be careful with his emotional life and public perception. The Moon is not in great condition. The natal Moon is in a wide fixed t-square with Neptune and Saturn. That same Neptune that brings him success in films makes him vulnerable to the moods of the public; he must watch how he acts in public. For the most part he has been very careful, he is not known for wild parties, drugs, and drinking, and he has always been supportive of the underdog. The Moon also makes a square to natal Saturn. Saturn is the one who requires that we work hard, and makes us pay for mistakes. His Midheaven is also involved with the same t-square, and since it is closer by degree, it is very potent. The Midheaven deals with reputation in the world, just as the Moon deals with notice by the public, The Moon is right up there with his Midheaven, so he is constantly in the public eye, and under scrutiny for his reputation. This position is often involved when jealousy rears its ugly head. In addition, the Moon doesn’t like to be in the sign Leo; it has no dignity, just as the Sun in Cancer has no dignity. But here’s the twist, the Sun and Leo are in each other’s signs which gives them dignity by exchange. This is called mutual reception, and this helps him get out of his dilemmas. However, anything that affects the Sun affects the Moon for better or worse, but because the Sun has good natal aspects, it's usually for the better. We’ve set up some of the patterns in his chart, so let’s see how they are being activated. On the surface it sounds like he’s had a bombshell dropped in his lap, but the chart says maybe not. Since last fall, there has been a fixed t-square creating havoc for almost everyone. For Tom Cruise, this t-square has been flirting his natal t-square – MC/Moon, Neptune and Jupiter. It has moved on, but it shows that circumstances were set up starting last fall. We know the 10th house is reputation and that the Moon and Sun go hand in hand by mutual reception. The Sun is the ruler of the 10th house (Midheaven). When a transit hits his Sun, it triggers his Moon, bring him to the notice of the general public, as well as his fans. Transit Jupiter and Uranus have both been activating his Sun by trine for many months. Uranus brings unexpected events, such as the birth of his child, but it also brings things to a sudden end it they’re not helping him. Jupiter is a planet that deals out success and in trine to the Sun, we see that he is heading for bigger and better things. This is not without problems, because it is also triggering the t-square with the Moon and the Midheaven, Jupiter, and Neptune; the t-square that makes the movie industry try to trip him up, but also makes us stand up and notice him. Jupiter made a conjunction to Neptune a few weeks ago and back door dealings and deception started then. For now, he’s in a despicable situation, and he’s been getting bad press for his couch antics, and mouthing off, but something is going to bail him out, just as it did for Mel Gibson last month. He got more publicity than normal, and Tom’s name is on the front page once again. Bad news is often good news in Hollywood. Notoriety of any kind is important.

His portrayals are not the norm, and with his Sun in Gemini he'll do what he wants, and is good at putting on many different faces. With Venus in Taurus there is a sensuality that comes out no matter what he does, and this is reinforced by Taurus on the cusp of his 10th house, the midheaven. The 10th house is reputation in the world. His Leo ascendant shows his love of drama, and gives him the ability to see the world in a colorful way, and this is one of the reasons that he attracts dramatic situations. Apparently, his performances have rattled many of the moneymen fronting his movies. Uranus in the first house loves to rebel and rattle their cages. A cage or a stereotype is never for him. The Yod between Neptune and the Moon with the Sun as the apex shows the importance of expressing himself through the Neptunian vehicle of film. The sextile between Neptune and the Moon adds a fantasy and a veil to his work that must be expressed through his Sun, his ego and identity. Neptune is a planet associated with alcohol and drugs, and often the moviemakers in the front office were afraid that his portrayals came across as someone who had been drinking, but his audience didn't care; they love it. He could slur his words, and they still knew what he was expressing. What the old fogies supposedly running the show often forget is that modern-day moviegoers are not interested in precision of words, they are interested in transmission of an elusive something. I have seen this in other actors, but they are more subtle. In the olden days they would have been considered terrible actors. It's all about illusion and transmission these days. People want magic, not reality, and I don't blame them one bit. I'm not surprised that his eccentric personality was first highlighted in the news while filming the Pirates of the Caribbean. When comparing his chart with Walt Disney's chart there are many conflicting aspects, which would push Johnny Depp to bring in a distinct performance. For those of you who want to compare the aspects, scroll down to see Walt Disney's chart. Transit Saturn will make a short pass over his ascendant causing limitations in some way to what he desires in the world, but this is short-lived. Saturn will then go on to trine his natal Sun, bringing the natal promise of success and recognition due to hard work. What he does have to watch for is Saturn oppose Saturn in the seventh, which will cause tension in relationships.

This is seen by Pluto, which represents the masses, and it is located at the top of the chart in the 10th house. The 10th has to do with recognition and status. Notice in the chart that the Moon is in opposition to Pluto. Most astrologers say that this creates some type of strong tension and maybe physical abuse between mother and child. I have not found that consistently true in a natal chart or at least not the abusive tension we would normally associate with this aspect. The chart of the mother should be consulted for more information. To understand the Moon Pluto opposition, we must go beyond traditional thinking, and this chart is a prime example. Pluto rules the masses, and the Moon rules motherhood and birth. This fits so perfectly with the picture of this birth awaited by the world. Pluto is the planet of force, and it will use strong-arm tactics to get what it wants. Bodyguards and police have set up barricades and used force to restrict the media as they try to get photos of this couple. Pluto is associated with criminals and underhanded tactics. In overstepping their bounds, some photographers and news reporter have been jailed. Pluto is angular in the 10th house, the reaction of the public and reputation. This is setting up a pattern, and here we see the difficulty that Moon Pluto will bring. Mother and daughter will have to work to bring balance to their relationship, and it will be affected by notoriety and public influence. With the Moon, even aspects by sign alone are powerful. If in fact this is the correct birth time that makes both the Moon and Pluto angular which makes this a powerful aspect, orb or no orb. Shiloh's Sun, in Gemini, a sign of communication and the media, shows that media and communication will be a part of her life. Gemini gives a natural curiosity and she will want to explore the world. The fact that barriers and boundaries were set up even before she was born is consistent with Sun sextile Saturn. Saturn is boundaries, which tells us that her natural curiosity will be protected in some way. This is a sextile, which brings opportunities, and we have seen that the barriers around the hotel have made this birth well publicized and given Shiloh early recognition. Saturn sextile Sun will help tame the square to the Sun by Uranus. Uranus brings uniqueness and the square makes it hard to handle at times. If not for Saturn, that uniqueness would turn to eccentricity and rebellion. Mercury sextile Neptune sows talent for writing and film. Given her introduction to the world through the media, this portends that there will be a talent in regard to Neptunian creativity which could manifest as poetical writing, or even photojournalism (yikes!) of some sort. She may even manifest a high spiritual quality through thought. She could take photojournalism to a new level. Even if the birth time is incorrect, the analysis so far is valid. Once we know the time is correct, the Moon, ascendant and midheaven will reveal more of the story.
